Jimmy Moutos, 89, of Amarillo passed peacefully on September 11, 2022.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 from 4pm – 6pm with a Prayer Service beginning at 6pm in the Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia. Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, September 15, 2022 at 2pm at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 4100 S. Coulter with Rev. John Valdez presiding. Burial will be private.
Jimmy Moutos was born on August 17, 1933 in Greece to Peter and Katherine (Keramithas) Moutos. He came to the United States on March 7, 1947. Once settled in Amarillo, Texas, Jimmy would graduate from Amarillo High School in 1953 and then attend Amarillo College where he earned his first degree in 1955. Following college, Jimmy enlisted in the United States Army National Guard where he proudly served his country from 1955 to 1957. In 1958 Jimmy would enroll at West Texas University and complete his studies earning his BBA Degree.
On September 15, 1960 he and D’Ann Slaughter exchanged vows in Amarillo at St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the two set off on life together. Jimmy and D’Ann were members of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church until they relocated in Amarillo and became members of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church for many years. They remained deeply devoted to one another until D’Ann’s passing on August 8, 2022. Jimmy was an accountant by trade and would retire as CFO from McCarty Hull INC. in 1997.
Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents Peter (1960) and Katherine (1995), and brothers Steve (1972), Stihl (2004), and Gus (2021) Moutos. Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter Catherine “Cat” Moutos, son John Moutos, as well as his many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
